Balsan hosts technical meeting with LCE and Aquafil
Site visits are always a useful starting point to get acquainted with the layout of the production process layout. On 14th February 2019, EFFECTIVE Project's partner Balsan ted at its premises in Arthon (France) REPRESENTATIVES from LCE and AquafilITA to work together on the environmental aspects concerning carpets production. An extended site visit and a technical discussion on sustainability aspects and eco-design of carpet solutions completed the workshop.
To proceed with WP5 (Eco-design, recycling processes and byproducts valorization following a circular economy approach) and WP6 activities (Resource efficiency, environmental sustainability and social acceptance of the EFFECTIVE solutions), a preliminary Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) questionnaire has been developed by LCE and shared with Balsan in order to:
- select a reference product to be used for benchmarking the innovative technology
- collect primary data about energy and mass balance from the production process, including scrap/waste generation, emissions to air and water
- define the main characteristics of the product, its requirements, targets and the expected results
- investigate potential alternatives to enhance the recyclability and the overall circularity of the product and the production process
This meeting was a great opportunity have three EFFECTIVE partners working side by side, making real progress with both LCA and Eco-design tasks towards the final goals of the project.
